Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance (SMHI)
Municipal Hail Insurance (MHI) is a municipal organization operated by farmers for farmers that operates under the authority of the Municipal Hail Insurance Act.
The RM of Tecumseh No. 65 offers both SMHI & AMHI insurance.

SMHI: Crop hail insurance protection is available to any owner of land or lessee of Crown-owned land in Saskatchewan.

- No-hassle continuous coverage: after the first year, coverage automatically renews on May 15th
- Indemnity limits up to $400 (2025 Rate) per acre

AMHI: A subsidiary of SMHI that provides crop hail insurance coverage to anyone with an insurable interest in the crop.
Buy alone or in addition to SMHI
Indemnity limits up to $500 (2025 rate) per acre
Coverage can be purchased on crops seeded on owned or leased land
Payment options: Cheque or Credit Card at time of purchase; Deferred payment due August 1st (at cash rate)

Important Dates
- Mar 31 - Last day for owners to withdraw from SMHI
- April 30 - Last day to apply for crop exemption
- June 15 - Last day to file crop reports for SMHI
- June 30 - Last day for new applicants to apply for coverage with SMHI
- August 1 - Last day to apply for coverage with AMHI or PMHI
- October 31 - Last day of hail & fire coverage
SMHI Discount Rates
To reward prompt payments, SMHI offers the following discounts:
- 5% if paid by September 30;
- 4% if paid by October 31;
- 2% if paid by November 30.
Hail Withdrawal
Owners of land may withdraw all, but not part*, of their cultivated land from the operations of The Municipal Hail Insurance Act by filing a withdrawal application with the Association on or before March 31st in any year.
*Owners of land may withdraw part of their land only if used for haying and grazing purposes.
Cancellation
Insurance may be cancelled for the current year only on crops insured which have been destroyed by some cause other than hail by notifying Municipal Hail Insurance by fax or registered letter on or before July 29th.
Exemption
An owner of land insured with Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance Association may exempt a crop/crops from the operations of the Municipal Hail Insurance Act by filing a Crop Exemption application on or before April 30th of the current year.
