Our Mission

Our Mission is to provide the Town of Stoughton, RM of Tecumseh No.65 and surrounding district with information, education, and leadership to enhance our capabilities to protect the citizens and their property from the devastation of fire, environmental, natural, and man made emergencies.

The Stoughton – Tecumseh District Fire Department fulfills this mission through the mandate established in the Saskatchewan Fire Prevention Act and the Municipal Fire Prevention Bylaw through:

  1.  Protection of life and property against fire and other emergencies.
  2.  Administering and enforcing the Fire Prevention Act and regulations within the area known as the Stoughton/Tecumseh and District Fire Protection area, through inspections of buildings, to identify and eliminate fire hazards and life threatening situations.
  3. Providing courses in fire prevention and education to the public and training fire service personnel to respond efficiently and safely to all types of emergencies.
  4. Reviewing building plans if necessary to ensure fire safety in building design. Provide safe and efficient suppression of fires, rescue, extrication, and dangerous goods assistance.
  5. Investigating or causing to be investigated, all fires in order to ascertain cause. origin, and circumstances of the fire.
  6. Promotion and encouragement of fire prevention and the appropriate reactions to this and other situations through public education.
  7. Advising and consulting with people and organizations on all aspects of fire safety.
  8. Performing other fire department related duties as directed by the Fire Board or the Minister.
  9. Interacting with other emergency services and neighboring fire departments to create   a higher level of tiered response to major emergencies.
  10. Researching methods to improve fire suppression and prevention

The Stoughton – Tecumseh District Fire Department is a Fire Department comprised of Volunteer Firefighters. We proudly serve the RM of Tecumseh No.65, Town of Stoughton as well as a large rural area.   We have numerous mutual aid agreements with surrounding Fire Departments.

Our Members consists of:

  • 1 Fire Chief 
  • 4 Deputy Fire Chiefs
  • 18 Volunteer Firefighters

 We operate out of a Fire Hall located in the Town of Stoughton. We serve our community and response area with 1 Pumper, 1 Rescue Unit, 2  Wildland Fire Apparatus, a Side-by-side, a RescueBogan (winter) and other Utility and Command vehicles.

Our call volume averages over 25 emergency calls for service per year and this is only increasing.  These calls consist of actual fires, MVC, Rescue, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, Control burns not called in, and false alarms. Stoughton – Tecumseh District Fire Department also responds to assist other fire departments as needed and requested.

We encourage training and certification in all areas of emergency response.

Every person who wishes to become a member of the Stoughton - Tecumseh & District Fire Department shall fill out an application form. The Fire Chief shall then present this name before the members of the department for consideration. It shall then be voted on by the members and then presented to Fire Board for final approval. The fire department is in need of Volunteer Firefighters. The Fire Dept. has Multi-Purpose Backpack sprayer units available for $250.00 + tax. One 32oz jug of foam is included with the initial purchase ($10 value). These units assist in containing small spot fires. For more information, contact the RM office.
